What is “Glamping” Exactly?

There has been a new fad going around known as “Glamping” but what does this mean?

Glamping

A form of camping involving accommodation and facilities more luxurious than those associated with traditional camping.

“Glamping is likely to satisfy any city slicker seeking a little refuge in nature—without foregoing any of life’s luxuries”

I thought it would be a fun idea to incorporate this idea of “glamping” into an event theme. This would be a very interesting idea for a corporate event to bring the stylish outdoors to your next event.

Venue

This is key to a glamping event. First it will need to be held outside to really get the glamping vibe. However, like all outdoor events be sure to be prepared with anything that may go wrong. I have written two previous posts on outdoor events Outdoor Events, Did I Think of That? and Outdoor Events, Are You Ready?

Having an outdoor space that has lots of grass would be perfect. I believe that the grass still gives that outdoorsy feeling but still staying within the luxurious concept. Being somewhere that either in near the water or also has a water feature will definitely give the great outdoor feel glampers crave.

Tents

The first way I would incorporate glamping into an event would be to have various little lounge areas that simulated the tents that one would experience when going glamping. Instead of beds there would be couches for people to sit and hang out.

These tents could be all different shapes and sizes also an interesting twist would be to have each tent a small mini theme within the idea of glamping. Some examples of mini themes would include camping in various places and conditions such as, the beach, the woods, during winter etc.

Food

S’mores

This would be perfect for glamping. Having fire pits around the venue with all the necessary ingredients for guests to make s’mores. This goes back to the wonderful childhood memories of roasting marshmallows over the campfire once the sun goes down.

BBQ

For dinner making something on the BBQ is a must to get the camping vibe. Whenever I camp the usual way to prepare food is on the grill. Now, you can “glamp” this up by still having dinner served at tables with real plates and utensils rather than sitting at picnic tables with the paper plates and plastic forks.

Here are some great ideas for BBQ dinners “glamp” style.
