The Seven Deadly Sins Adapted For Your Professional Event

One party theme that you rarely see in the professional world is a seven deadly sins theme. One reason this theme is not used very often is that it becomes hard to keep it professional. I have compiled a few ideas that would allow for this theme to be used for a professional event.

First let me define what the seven deadly sins are.

Envy – the desire for others’ traits, status, abilities, or situation

Gluttony – the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste

Greed – an excessive or rapacious desire and pursuit of material possessions

Lust – an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body

Pride – excessive belief in one’s own abilities

Sloth – is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work

Wrath – strong vengeful anger or indignation

These ideas are not literal interpretations of the deadly sins but more of an adaptation to fit a professional event.

Envy

This would be best achieved through a very amazing raffle prize (such as a wine basket). With all the events I have attended whenever there is a raffle prize to be won I always get this mini burst of excitement that I may be the one to win it. However, almost every time I become envious of the person who wins.

Gluttony

Having a dessert bar where guests can go up as many times as the want and get anything they want holds true to the over-indulgence aspect of gluttony. Also who doesn’t want to over-indulge in desserts! Yum!

Greed

For this sin I would use a silent action. This is a great adaptation of greed because people are outbidding one another the entire night in order to get the item they want most. Also I would make the table have many aspects of gold to also tie in with the idea that greed many times revolves around obtaining wealth.

Lust

This is where the seven deadly sins theme can become tricky to still keeping it professional. I believe the best way to portray this them would be through some sort of entertainment during the event. One idea would be to have a Moulin Rouge can-can line. I like this idea because it isn’t too risky but many people know the history behind the Moulin Rouge to understand how the sin of lust is being portrayed.

Pride

Depending on the type of event I have a couple ideas for pride. The first is if the event is a charity fundraiser to have each table rally to raise the most money for the charity. Whichever table that wins be sure to give them a small prize for their charitable efforts. The other idea is for a corporate event to have a company presentation on the prideful accomplishments the company has done recently.

Sloth

This one was very easy but also fun to create. This is the prime opportunity to set up a comfy lounge area for guests to relax in. This is an adaptation for sloth, it is not calling your guests lazy but just proving them an area to wind down and enjoy themselves and be able to talk to one another.

Wrath

Wrath was another tough aspect to adapt for a professional event. I would develop a special dinner menu that offered a spicier or red colored food. An example menu would be:

Appetizer: Spicy Cajun Shrimp

Entrée: Jalapeño Rosemary Alfredo

Dessert:  Hot and Spicy Chocolate Cake

I hope everyone will be able to use some of these ideas to create their own sinful event and keep it professional at the same time. Please leave a comment with any other ideas for a seven deadly sins themed event.
